On Tuesday, 20th November, we were lucky enough to attend the launch of the updated Kia Sportage which boasts value for money in terms of size and equipment.
Our day starts at the Century City Conference center where we are sat down and given a break down of the Sportage’s history and what they’ve always stood for. With the meeting wrapped up, we were escorted to the underground parking where 9 Kia Sportages are parked up, being 3 different models from the entry Ignite 1.6l GDI to the range topping 2.0l CRDI EX Plus. I opted for the middle of the range spec, being the 2.0l CRDI Ignite Plus.
Being the middle of the range spec, the Ignite Plus features an 8-speed auto-transmission, which I have to say worked like a treat along the drive. The car costs R453 995 and has everything you could possibly need such as Bluetooth, automatic lights, multi-functional steering wheel, air conditioning and I have to compliment the ride quality as the road holding is excellent.
We headed out in the cars for a scenic drive past Cape Town’s winelands and some stunning views along the way. Our destination was a lovely wine farm just outside Stellenbosch called Glen Carlou where we were treated to an indulging meal while relaxing before the long drive back. This also provided the opportunity to socialize with the other drivers and members from Kia Motors.
With the lunchstop over, we were provided the opportunity to change cars and this time I went with the top of the range EX Plus model. This model is much different from the Ignite Plus, as it has a more premium feel and look. This is due to the leather seats (which are absent in the Ignite and Ignite Plus models I should mention)and the touch infotainment system as well as automatic rain and light sensors. It also costs R536 995, which is almost R100 000 more over the Ignite Plus, and it shows! This car was a treat to drive back to Cape Town in, if anything it was smoother than the Ignite Plus which was already impressive as it was.
With all 9 cars on the way back to Cape Town, the day came to a gradual end where we finished at the Century City Hotel where Kia offered us rooms to stay for the night. What a treat.
Thank You Kia South Africa, it was quite a fun experience!
